Food safety and security are at the heart of both the competitiveness in food industry and the challenge of feeding a growing and safety-demanding population. We are committed with these challenges, performing research and development in different fields intended to enhance quality and nutritional value, durability and risk control in food and feed. Besides, complementing the nutritional and safety issues, additional functional attributes have come into play when it comes to the relationship between food and health, and we are already partnering with food industry performing research towards the achievement of health claims.

  • Food & feed additives

    Microorganisms, aside from key ingredients in the manufacturing processes of several foods, are factories of a broad diversity of additives, such as vitamins, pigments, amino acids, preservatives or probiotics.

  • Food quality & safety

    We engage with food and feed industry in the development of tools that improve process control when it comes to biological and toxicological hazards.

  • Health claims in functional food

    Stringent regulations are in place when it comes to food labels containing health claims. Since 2011, we partner with food companies applying our in-vitro and in-vivo models in order to assess safety and efficacy of novel functional ingredients and foods.
